Perhaps the impending festivities spurs editors to display the finest in fashion, cajoling readers to look their best no matter where the holidays find them…whatever it is, we love it!

Wow! Dennis Basso creations for 2012 - 13! Excellent!

The glamour and excitement of luxury train travel seems to have been an inspiration for several prominent Fall 2012-Winter 2013 collections, but nobody has done it better than Dennis Basso. When Dennis Basso showcases trains and whistles, only the famed Orient Express will do.

With this collection, Dennis Basso introduced an elegant line-up of vanity cases in Russian broadtail and weekender bags in voluminous skins that are certain to be key statement pieces for the season. As extravagant as these items sound, they encapsulated the collection’s message to perfection and helped keep the significance on point. We loved them!

But it was the various new fur treatments that made both clients and editors swoon with delight and awe. Mr. Basso applied his unparalleled artistry and magical touch to introduce parka-like garments that appeared to be wool gabardine, but turned out to be micro-sheared fur. Then, he turned multi-fur compositions into colorful marvels.

When it comes to New York Fashion Week, Dennis Basso is one of the greats, one of the most creative. His tool is fur and his fearless personality a design advantage. Nothing seems to faze him.

This collection was strong, imposing, and even romantic in its sleekness. As ultra-luxurious as the pieces were, they still managed to exude a classic American sportswear quality, an ease that is usually hard to grasp in fur design.

Atsuro Tayama FW 2012-13 | Runway Fashion Video Recap

Back in the late 70s, early 80s, Japanese designers like Rei Kawakubo, Yohji Yamamoto and Hanae Mori made their nest in Paris, where their aesthetic not only took the City of Light by storm, it energized a new crop of designers to venture in new creative directions.

Atsuro Tayama may not be that well-known stateside, but in Paris, he is revered by many for his originality and talent. The Tayama aesthetic is complex, often combining architectural elements with beautiful tailoring to create an understated elegance.

This Fall 2012-Winter 2013 collection may not be that understated when you look at the fur pieces and applications he chose. This time around he may have injected a little futuristic vibe into his line-up, but his tailoring and cuts remain uncompromised.

What is fascinating about his work is how he makes seemingly bulky garments move as one with the body. Some of the pieces he delivered on the runway were imposing and brightly hued. These vivid touches complemented the quasi-black collection. From daywear to eveningwear, most pieces appear monochromatic, only the furs brought out color.

This time around, he overwhelmingly favored fox for its volume and movement, but also introduced a good amount of lamb shearling and pony skin, which he combined with soft leather. The various combinations made the garments move effortlessly and seemed to defy expectations.
