All good things come to an end, so we’re saying farewell to Milan until the next set of collections in February (which we expect will be filled with cashmeres and leathers and furs and other luxe touches… as always, Italian style with panache!).
With this collection cycle, the mood varied daily and encapsulated its own micro-climate within the main stylistic and tailored wave. As the week unrolled and showed its creations, a noticeable circa 1980 vibe emerged and assured itself in everything from flowy pants ensembles to long skirts to wrap shirtdresses (sorry Diane, you weren’t the first to come-up with that idea).
But another trend emerged, too, as designers looked to the 1990s and introduced new takes on some of the noteworthy trends of that era. For those who missed the elongated and accessorized looks, you’re in luck. Back are the iconic looks of the day, which, oddly enough, read very contemporary. We could go on and on about this slice of fashion…it was heaven the first time around, let’s hope it returns in full force!
Of course, as New York and London showed their take on prints, the trend marched forward in Milan and we are virtually dripping in rich and bold print designs. However, amid vivid prints and high contrast hues in general, white is also showing up in stride. This cool-down of color works well as it helps to balance the enthusiastic color-play.
If one could describe Milan, it would be a dressed up replay of past looks made a little softer, a little less formal… very current. This week was, by all indications, a successful array of collections that will make it to the stores and into people’s closets. The Italians did their job. Now, what will Paris bring?
